About The Prints |
Scan First, the film is turned into a digital file by performing a high resolution drum scan of the image. We typically create a 100mb scan file from 35mm film - from medium and large format it is possible to create up to 400mb files. Larger scan sizes will allow you to create larger prints with less image quality degradation. Master Image The second step in the process is to create the Master Image. This step is much like the traditional darkroom process but is performed on the computer using Adobe Photoshop. This allows infinitely greater control over color, contrast, value, etc. and results in a reproduction that is truer to the original than ever before possible. The Master Image is archived to CD so that the darkroom work needs to be performed only once. Output Finally the Master Image can be output to any number of devices at any time. The Lightjet 5000 laser printer exposes the Fuji Crystal Archive Paper with color lasers. Color Management tools and processes based on Windows ICM or Apple Colorsync are used throughout to ensure that color accuracy is maintained throughout the process.
Under normal exhibition conditions these prints will retain their color and radiance for 60-70 years without fading or color shifting -- more than three times longer than the 16 to 20 years of Kodak's present papers. If your objective is the finest photographic reproduction with brilliant colors and fine detail resolution, Lightjet® prints cannot be rivaled! |
